With the decision taken by MEB on Friday, March 13, 2020, all schools were closed in our country and it was decided to continue education and training from home. The education and training of our preschool and prep school students between the ages of 3 and 6 continue online from home due to Covid-19.
Keystone Preschools started on-line education with their students, full blast. In the beginning, we slowly integrated the system into our students’ lives, just like in the first days of school. We started with shorter lessons twice a day every day and implemented routines according to the students’ age groups. In the second week, the younger age groups continued with two sessions, plus they had on-one-one meetings with their teachers. The older students leveled up to three lessons per day, plus individual face-to-face session with their teachers once a week. In the third week, we introduced branch lessons,(Music, French & Movement) giving students more variety.
Age 3 students are doing 2 lessons online with their class teachers every day, they follow the Music lessons once a week online with their teachers. In addition, each student continues to meet individually online with the classroom teacher once a week. The school’s guidance service communicates with the student online in case of need, while attending 1 class lessons per week.
Age 4 students are doing 2 lessons online with their class teachers every day, they follow the French, Music lessons once a week online with their teachers. In addition, each student continues to meet individually online with the classroom teacher once a week. The school’s guidance service communicates with the student online when needed, and conducts 1 lesson per week.
Since Age 5 preparatory class students will start primary school in September, the education and training period of this class is very close to the education and training process of primary school students. While they follow 3 lessons online with their class teachers every day, they conduct 1 French lessons and 1 Music lesson once a week. In addition, individual lessons continue online with the classroom teacher once a week. The school guidance service communicates with the student online in case of need conducting 1 class lesson per week.
Each week our preschool teachers from all campuses gather to plan and prepare an assortment of lessons that included academic-based activities, such as language arts, math, and science, all fully in English. The curriculum also includes arts & crafts, songs, stories, hands-on activities like baking bread & cookies plus fun and engaging projects such as preparing bird feeders to feed hungry birds and science experiments such as planting seeds to observe and learn about photosynthesis.
Our school psychologists are actively giving guidance lessons as well as meeting individually with students face to face. Their constant encouragement and support are comforting to our students as well as their parents.
Keystone Preschool teachers and students are learning something new each and every day. Adjusting to a system that is new to all of us is not so easy, but who knows what the future holds for students and teachers in the weeks, months, or years to come… What we do know, for sure, is that Keystone teachers and students are ambitious, flexible and ready to continue in all situations.
In these tough times let’s not forget to keep our minds and bodies healthy.
